Sian, I switched to organic oatcakes, because I find them easier to digest (I make my own). I only have them occasionally – maybe a couple of times a month. If I want something with my soup, these days I scatter on things like pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds, and herbs, just to give a bit of texture.
Have you counted your breakfast cereal as carbs and sugar? I think most of the commercial ones contain a lot of sugar. I sometimes make my own granola,but I do add maple syrup, so it probably isn’t terribly healthy!
